"Armel Dupas (piano), Jules Billé (doublebasse) et Christophe Piot (drums) have regularly gathered together since july 2021 to record jazz at Armel's studio in the countryside of Nantes (France).

Their repertoire comprising covers, original compositions and jazz standards enjoys a great success on Spotify and makes the Armel Dupas Trio one of the most streamed French jazz bands.

Being an artist who is close to his audience, Armel excels in the art of presentation, in the sharing of stories and chunks of life. A concert by the Armel Dupas Trio is a "feel good moment"... "

BIOGRAPHIES

A multi-project artist rooted in the concerns of his time, Armel Dupas defines himself as a pianist-entrepreneur. He is much more than that: a great traveler, aware of the realities of the international music market as well as environmental issues, he questions the creation of music from a reinvented jazz base in order to promote well-being and spirituality in particular

Drawn to jazz and improvisation at a very early age, he very quickly made a name for himself in the French jazzosphere after graduating with flying colors from the Paris Conservatory (CNSMDP). An affinity with artistic diversity led him to accumulate a decade’s worth of experiences touring, performing and writing music for the cinema and the theatre. We can cite his collaborations with French major artists such as bassist Henri Texier, film director Arnaud Desplechin, singer Sandra Nkaké, singer Catherine Ringer, or the theater director Ladislas Chollat.

His work as a leader began with two acclaimed albums: Inner Island, an album by the group WaterBabies, winner of the Tremplin Rezzo Focal Jazz à Vienne in 2013, followed by Upriver in 2015, released under the prestigious Jazz Village label. In 2017-2018, the Armel Dupas Trio toured the jazz concert venues of France and Europe with the support of the Jazz Migration project, which accompanied the release of the album A Night Walk.

In 2019, Armel discovered the joys of performing solo outside the traditional circuits and created Home Piano Live, a tour of 100 concerts in people’s homes. This was matched to perfection by the release of his album Broderies, his biggest success to date (over 4 million streams on Spotify). Performing overseas more often than in France, Armel’s preparations for a departure to Moscow were cut short by the COVID crisis. This provided the opportunity for Armel to return to the homelands of his native Nantes, where he rediscovered the quiet life, surrounded by nature and old companions. Home Piano Live became a live show on YouTube, playing jazz for friends from home and abroad.

It was on that occasion that Armel met the drummer Christophe Piot, a chameleon musician and a specialist in world rhythms. His Funny Grooves videos offered Armel a reinterpretation of his own compositions by juxtaposing piano and drums. The idea of a common project began to emerge : an elegant and melodic jazz trio where each of the musicians would express his colour palette. Jules Billé, a young double bassist still in high school when they met, brought groove and freshness to this trio. Having co-produced their first album Lookin' Up together, Armel, Jules and Christophe set off on their first tour in the spring of 2022 with enthusiasm.

Jules Billé began playing the classical double bass at the age of 7, then jazz a few years later. At the end of his studies in classical double bass at the CRD of La Roche-sur-Yon in the class of Tiphaine Macé, and in jazz at the CRR of Nantes, notably with Jean-Marie Bellec, Ronan Courty and Patrick Charnois, he acquired his Diplomas of Musical Studies in these two disciplines in 2022. A year that saw him enter the Jazz and Improvised Music department of the Paris Conservatory - CNSMDP. Having been acquainted at an early age with multiple musical aesthetics such as gypsy swing, early music, classical music and jazz, he is interested in the music that surrounds him and seeks in these ways to enrich his practice. He participates in the Myriad project led by Alban Darche and the Nantes label Yolk Records. He has been a member of the Armel Dupas Trio since 2021.

Drummer/percussionist, Christophe Piot has been studying music since the age of 6. A pupil of Olivier Bertrand, Yves Teslar, Peter Erskine, he also studied classical percussion at the conservatory and Afro-Cuban music in France and Cuba. Passionate about rhythm in all its forms, he actively participates in many jazz, song, world, traditional music projects... He has accompanied renowned artists: Sixun, Alain Debiossat, Baptiste Herbin, Adama Yalomba, Cécile Corbel, Octantrion, participated in the recording of 40 albums, and created the “FunnyGrooves” instructional videos. Alongside his activities as a musician, he teaches in different forms, and travels to meet the rhythmic cultures he loves.
